Welcome to the Richmond Police Department

The Richmond Police Department was formed in 1834 with two officers. Today it has evolved into a highly professional agency of 76 of the best men and women in law enforcement who have sworn an oath to protect the citizens of Richmond, along with several dedicated volunteers, reserve officers and support staff.

The Richmond Police Department includes the following divisions and specialty services:

Patrol, Investigations, Drug Task Force, Traffic, Youth Services, Community Outreach, Equestrian Unit, Bicycle Patrol Unit, K-9 Unit, Reserve Unit, Explorer Cadet Post, CUFFS TV Program

With a focus on Intelligence-Led Policing, youth and neighborhood problem solving the Richmond Police Department continues to grow, learn and change to accommodate an ever changing and diverse community.

The Richmond Police Department non-emergency line can be reached 24 hours a day, Monday thru Friday at (765) 983-7247.

In our pursuit for excellence in policing, the Richmond Police Department will hold itself and its  members accountable for our actions; perform our duties with integrity; serve our community with the highest degree of professionalism; let honesty be our guide; and uphold the public trust in our agency.

 Thank You,

‍ ‍James R. Branum - Chief of Police
