About
Born and raised in Richmond, Lieutenant Austin Lipps has served with the Richmond Police Department for 19 years in multiple capacities. Lieutenant Lipps has served as a Field Training Officer, K-9 handler, SWAT Commander, School Resource Officer, and has held multiple supervisory roles within the department. Lieutenant Lipps has attended several schools in incident management, supervision and leadership, major crime scene, and tactical operations. Prior to joining RPD, he was a Correctional Officer in the Wayne County Jail.
He is a 1998 graduate of Richmond High School, the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, and holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. He served in the United States Marine Corps and United States Army during the Global War on Terror. Through RPD, he has been awarded the Community Service Medal, Life Saving Medal, the 2020 Supervisor of the Year, and has received multiple letters of appreciation and commendation from outside agencies and the community.
