One Week Update on Officer Seara Burton

August 18, 2022

The Richmond Police Department would like to thank the Richmond Community members and our local businesses that have shown an unbelievable amount of support. As many of you are aware, Officer Seara Burton was critically injured on Wednesday, August 10, 2022. Officer Burton was shot during a traffic stop in the 200 Block of North 12th Street.

The Police Department Administration wanted to provide an update on our Officer and her K9 partner. Officer Burton remains in critical condition at Miami Valley Hospital and continues to fight. There have been some bright spots since Wednesday but her condition is still very serious. The doctors and nurses are providing her with the best possible medical care, and we are very grateful. We as a Department and as a Community continue to hope and pray for her recovery.

Officer Burton’s K9 partner Brev was not injured during the incident. He is currently being cared for by one of our Investigators that is a former K9 handler. He is in excellent hands and is being cared for in the best possible way.

The Officers of the Richmond Police Department are navigating through some difficult times as we wait to see Seara’s progress. The Officers of RPD are strong and pulling together to support each other. They have the full and unwavering support of the Administration, The City of Richmond, and the Community as a whole.

Many times over the last week we have been humbled by your support. Please join us in our continued prayers for Seara, her family, the Police Department, and our Community. We will update the public as new information becomes available.

Respectfully,

Michael Britt

Major Jon Bales
