Indiana State Police Investigating an Officer Involved Shooting

May 24, 2020

On Sunday, May 24th at approximately 10:55 am, officers of the Richmond Police Department encountered a person on the Richmond City Building Parking lot. The person charged the officers with a knife and was shot by a Richmond Officer. Officers rendered first aid until Emergency Medical Personnel arrived. The person was transported to Reid Health then flown to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Oh.

The identity of the person injured or his current medical condition is not available for publication at this time by this agency.

I contacted the Indiana State Police shortly afterward and requested they investigate this incident as an impartial and non-involved agency. They have since taken over the scene and investigation.

Any further information requests should be directed to the Indiana State Police.

No Officers were injured in this incident.

Respectfully,
Michael Britt
Chief of Police
