Passing of Retired Chief of Police James R. Branum

July 28, 2020

It is with great sadness that I announce that Retired Chief of Police James R. Branum has passed away. He passed away at home in the early morning hours on July 27th, 2020.

Chief Branum retired from the Richmond Police Department after 33 years of dedicated service. He served as Chief of Police from January 1st, 2016 until his retirement on April 28th, 2020. He retired due to medical reasons.

Jim fought a brave battle with cancer, being first diagnosed in 2017.

He was a beloved co-worker, respected Chief, a natural leader and friend to many. He will be missed.

Jim leaves behind his wife Pam, two children and several grandchildren. We ask for your prayers to comfort the Branum family.

Respectfully,
Michael Britt
Chief of Police
