Keifer Uphaus Selected as Newest RPD K9 Handler

December 22, 2022

The Richmond Police Department has selected its newest K9 handler, Keifer Uphaus. Officer Uphaus will be selecting a new K9 partner and attending training at Vohne Liche Kennels. Training begins on January 16th and runs for 6 weeks. Our K9 handlers are chosen from a pool of well qualified officers that closely compete for one opening.

Vohne Liche Kennels has been a wonderful partner with the Richmond Police Department for many years. They were very moved by the passing of Officer Seara Burton and have graciously offered to donate the next K9 to the department.

Officer Burton's family also made a very gracious donation to the Richmond Police Department to cover the cost of Officer Uphaus' training which amounts to several thousand dollars. They had a deep desire to help carry on the excellence of our K9 program in Seara's memory. It was very important to them to give back to the Richmond Community that showed them and the department so much support.

We wanted to express our deepest gratitude to Seara's family and Vohne Liche Kennels for supporting the Richmond Police Department and our K9 program.
