Parks Superintendent

Join our team!

Join Richmond Parks & Recreation this summer for an exciting internship opportunity! Our department manages 19 parks/recreation facilities, runs over 250 events annually, hosts multiple summer camps, and works with dozens of community partners each year to fulfill our goal of making Richmond a fun place to live, work, grow, and play.

We offer a wide variety of internship opportunities each year, and love to adapt our opportunities to your particular interests or passions! We have a small, tight knit staff that loves working with young professionals (like you!) to give hands-on experience in the field. We also conduct a weekly “Workshop Wednesday” for interns with professional and career information. We even have a limited amount of free housing available within walking distance of our office for our interns!

If you are interested in one of our internship opportunities, want more information, or want to discuss a customized opportunity, please don’t hesitate to reach out! You can contact us by calling (765) 983-PARK or by sending an email to parks@richmondindiana.gov.

Students are encouraged to seek academic credit with their home campus for these unpaid internships. All internships comply with standards for internship programs under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

To apply to any of our positions, send an email to parks@richmondindiana.gov with your resume and cover letter, and the subject line "Internship Application" and the name of the position you are applying for.

What's it like?

Every summer, in addition to the interns normal work duties, we provide a series of workshops and lectures for our interns to enrich their experience and make sure they get a variety of educational opportunities. For example, in 2020 we connected over Zoom with Josh Imhoff to learn more about his digital marketing agency. He explained how he and his wife, Megan Imhoff, use search engine optimization to promote local businesses online. Megan also runs a local blog and our interns learned about writing and running a blog.

Check out a few pictures from 2019!

Our 2019 class of interns!

We borrowed a city bus to do a tour of the Parks system!

One week, our interns got a chance to meet with Mayor Snow to learn more about him and his role.
