Incumbent serves as Bus Driver for the Roseview Transit System, responsible for providing safe and dependable public transportation for citizens of the City of Richmond.
Drives and operates bus on assigned routes according to an established time schedule.
Schedules runs and changes destination sign on bus as needed.
Operates lift for handicapped passengers in wheelchairs and assists elderly passengers and others in need of assistance.
Treats passengers in a courteous manner and provides information regarding bus schedules as requested.
Completes operator reports and vehicle checklists as required and submits maintenance slips for needed bus repairs as appropriate.
Performs related duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
High school diploma or GED.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Knowledge of specific traffic and safety laws and ability to abide by all provisions of these laws.
Knowledge of and ability to safely operate and drive buses in city and highway traffic, often under stressful external conditions, and in all types of weather.
Knowledge of city streets and established routes/schedules and ability to consistently maintain schedules as required.
Knowledge of and ability to properly operate two-way radio system.
Working knowledge of standard English grammar, spelling and punctuation, and ability to prepare detailed activity reports as required.
Ability to meet all employer hiring and retention requirements, including passage of a medical exam, drug screen, and written test.
Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, other City departments and the public, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities, and disabilities.
Ability to comply with all employer and department policies and work rules, including, but not limited to, attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct.
Ability to provide public access to or maintain confidentiality of department information and records according to state requirements.
Ability to competently serve the public with diplomacy and respect, including occasional encounters with difficult persons.
Ability to understand, memorize, retain, and carry out verbal or written instructions.
Ability to apply knowledge of people and locations, make simple arithmetic additions/subtractions, and read/interpret detailed manuals, maps, and directions.
Ability to work alone with minimum supervision and with others in a team environment, often under time pressure.
Ability to work extended, evening, and/or weekend hours and occasionally travel out of town on chartered trips, but not overnight.
Possession of a valid Indiana driver's license and Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and demonstrated safe driving record.
Incumbent performs duties according to a standard schedule with priorities primarily determined by supervisor. Assignments are guided by specific detailed instructions, with incumbent referring to supervisor for unusual or unprecedented situations. Errors in work are primarily detected or prevented through complete prior instructions from supervisor.
Incumbent reports directly to Operations Manager.
Incumbent's duties involve sitting for long periods, sitting/walking at will, reaching, bending, light to moderate lifting, close/far vision, color/depth perception, hearing ounds/communication and handling/grasping/fingering objects.
Incumbent performs duties in a bus and outdoors and is regularly exposed to inclement weather, traffic, excessive noise, dust, and exhaust fumes normally associated with city driving. Incumbent regularly works extended, evening, and/or weekend hours, and occasionally travels out of town on chartered trips, but not overnight.
