POSITION: Janitorial Laborer Asst.
DEPARTMENT: Parks and Recreation
WORKSCHEDULE: 6:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
JOB CATEGORY: LTC(Labor, Trades, Crafts)
HOURLYRATE: $9.00 - $12.00 per hour
Maintains various department facilities, including, rental facilities, offices, outdoor open-air facilities, enclosed facilities, maintenance complex, McBride Stadium, Senior Center, and pool as directed.
Performs general cleaning duties, including sweeping, mopping, buffing and waxing floors, vacuuming carpets, dusting and polishing furniture and fixtures, washing windows and mirrors, appliances and emptying trash containers.
Utilizes responsible spray techniques throughout the facilities when needed
Cleans restrooms and restocks soap and paper supplies as needed.
Completes basic maintenance duties at assigned facilities, including changing light bulbs and washing and painting walls, woodwork and outside areas as needed.
Maintains outdoor and interior areas, including picking up trash, sweeping area sidewalks, blowing off chairs, patios and sidewalks, cleaning barbecue grills and drinking fountains, and watering plants. Shovels snow, chips ice, and salts sidewalks and entryways to facilities during winter. Removal of graffiti from all areas.
Inspects all facilities on a daily basis and prepares written reports of damages and needed repairs. Including graffiti and fills out daily checklist as requested.
Work schedule includes weekends, holidays and coverage when full time janitor is off
Performs related duties as assigned.
I. SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
High school diploma or GED.
Working knowledge of and ability to make practical application of basic janitorial, safety and sanitation requirements for assigned areas of responsibility.
Ability to safely operate a variety of tools and equipment, including shovel, rake, mop, broom, vacuum, floor stripper/buffer, hedge trimmers and leaf blowers.
Ability to physically perform custodial duties, including standing, walking, moderate to heavy lifting, pushing/pulling objects, reaching, bending, crouching/kneeling and handling/grasping/fingering objects.
Ability to understand, memorize, retain and carry out oral and written instructions.
Ability to work alone with minimum supervision, with others in a team environment, and on several tasks at the same time.
Ability to read/interpret detailed specifications, equipment manuals and label directions for correct mixing and use of cleaning supplies.
Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, other City departments, vendors and the public, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities and disabilities.
Ability to comply with all employer and department policies and work rules, including, but not limited to, attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct.
Ability to provide public access to or maintain department information and records according to state requirements.
Possession of a valid driver's license and demonstrated safe driving record.
Incumbent performs duties according to supervisor and a flexible, customary routine following standard operating policies and procedures. Incumbent must have supervisor’s permission to deviate from standard operating procedures. Errors in work are primarily detected or prevented through standard safety procedures and notification from supervisor or the public.
Incumbent reports directly to Assistant Superintendent.
III. PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Incumbent lifts materials and supplies of moderate to heavy weight and performs most duties while standing or walking at will. Strain is not prolonged and effort is exerted for short to moderate periods of time, usually in connection to such duties as clearing snow and ice from walkways.
IV. WORKING CONDITIONS:
Incumbent performs duties in buildings/facilities and outdoors, involving sitting/standing/walking at will, pushing/pulling objects, reaching, bending, crouching/kneeling, hearing sounds, and handling/grasping/fingering objects. Incumbent is exposed to toxic chemicals, dust, fumes, excessive noise, moving parts, extreme weather conditions and heights normally associated with maintenance duties. Safety precautions must be followed at all times to avoid injury to self and others.
