Enjoy wonderful, live performances throughout the year at a variety of venues.  You can also see art lauded by museums around the world

Performing Arts

The Civic Hall Performing Arts Center hosts performances by nationally known artists, as well as serving as home to the Richmond Symphony Orchestra. This facility, located at Richmond High School, also hosts student performances throughout the year.

Call early for tickets to the wonderful Richmond Civic Theatre which has been showcasing talented local individuals since it's founding in 1940. They entertain audiences with a variety Main Stage drama, comedy and musical theater. Adult situation dramas are performed under the title of Studio 10 at RCT. Youngsters gain theatre experience - and children can enjoy stories just for them - during Stage One Youth Theatre at RCT productions.

Another citizen-based activity is the Richmond Community Orchestra. This community group welcomes instrument-playing community members to participate and performs free concerts several times a year.

Earlham College and Indiana University East each host performances, lectures, and art exhibits throughout the year. Visit their respective websites for upcoming events.

For a special treat, watch for free performances, offered each summer by the Chanticleer String Quartet.

Visual Arts

Art Gallery at Whitewater Hall, IU East

McDowell Art Gallery at Reid Hospital hosts a revolving art display of work by regional artists.

Richmond Art Museum, the only public art museum in the U.S. to be housed in an operating high school, features an outstanding collection of work by American impressionists, Taos School, the Hoosier Group, the Richmond School and other regional artists.  In addition to their permanent collection, they host a variety of exhibits.

A wide variety of public art, including murals created during the Festival of the Arts competition, can be seen all over the City. 

The Wayne County Historical Museum has a wonderful collection of paintings, although that is not the main focus of their collection. 

Movies

The Richmond Art Museum, sponsors a high school film festival each year in April.  High school students across the state compete for prizes and to have their film shown at the festival, which is open to the public.

First run movies are shown at the AMC Showplace in Richmond.  Check their website for current films and show times.
