POSITION: Maintenance Laborer
DEPARTMENT: Roseview Transit
WORK SCHEDULE: M – F 3:30 PM to 9:00 PM

SALARY: $12.00-$14.00/ Hour

Incumbent serves as Maintenance Laborer for the Roseview Transit Department, responsible for cleaning, servicing, and maintaining public transportation vehicles for the City of Richmond.
DUTIES
Cleans inside and outside of all transit vehicles, including washing, sweeping, disinfecting passenger seats, mopping, washing windows, and removing trash from inside of buses.
Maintains adequate fuel levels in vehicles, completing gas log sheets and submitting to supervisor as required.
Checks oil and other fluids, and inspects instruments, gauges, tire pressure, and lights in vehicles daily.
Maintains inventory of cleaning supplies, ordering supplies as needed.
Secures bus storage facility and grounds, locking doors and electronic gates after regular business hours.
Performs related duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
High school diploma or GED.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Knowledge of safety precautions and practices applicable to working with vehicles and cleaning chemicals, with ability to assure safety of self and others at all times.
Working knowledge of and ability to make practical application of basic vehicle maintenance/service and safely operate hand and/or power tools in the performance of duties, including air compressor, mop, and broom.
Ability to meet all employer hiring and retention requirements, including passage of a drug test.
Ability to physically perform assigned duties, including standing/walking for long periods, reaching, bending, crouching/kneeling, carrying/pushing/pulling objects, close vision, hearing sounds, and handling/grasping/fingering objects.
Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, other City departments and the public, including being sensitive to professional ethics,
gender, cultural diversities, and disabilities.
Ability to comply with all employer and department policies and work rules, including, but not limited to, attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct.
Ability to provide public access to or maintain confidentiality of department information and records according to state requirements.
Ability to understand, memorize, retain, and carry out verbal or written instructions.
Ability to read charts and maintain accurate maintenance logs.
Ability to work alone with minimum supervision, often at a rapid pace, and on several tasks at the same time.
Possession of a valid Indiana driver’s license and demonstrated safe driving record.
RESPONSIBILITY
Incumbent performs duties according to a flexible, customary routine with priorities primarily determined by supervisor. Assignments are guided by definite objectives using a variety of methods or procedures, with incumbent referring to supervisor for unusual situations. Errors in work are primarily detected or prevented through complete prior instructions from supervisor.
Incumbent reports directly to Operations Manager.
PHYSICAL EFFORT
Incumbent carries materials and supplies of moderate weight and performs most duties while standing or walking at will. Strain is not prolonged and effort is exerted for short to moderate periods of time, usually in connection to sweeping and washing buses.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Incumbent performs duties in a garage, involving sitting/walking at will, standing/walking for long periods, pushing/pulling objects, reaching, bending, crouching/kneeling, close vision, hearing sounds, and handling/grasping/fingering objects. Incumbent is regularly exposed to toxic chemicals, dust, fumes, excessive noise, moving parts, and extreme weather conditions. Safety precautions must be followed at all times to avoid injury to self and others.
