Incumbent serves as Bus Driver for the Roseview TransitSystem, responsible for providing safe and dependable public transportation forcitizens of the City of Richmond.

 

DUTIES:

 

Drives and operatesbus on assigned routes according to an established time schedule.  

 

Operates lift forhandicapped passengers in wheelchairs and assists elderly passengers and othersin need of assistance.

 

Treats passengers ina courteous manner and provides information regarding bus schedules asrequested.

 

Completes operatorreports and vehicle checklists as required and submits maintenance slips forneeded bus repairs as appropriate.

 

Performs relatedduties as assigned.

 

I.  SKILLS ANDKNOWLEDGE:

 

High school diploma or GED.

 

Must be at least 21 years of age.

 

Knowledge of specific traffic and safety laws and abilityto abide by all provisions of these laws.

 

Knowledge of and ability to safely operate and drive busesin city and highway traffic, often under stressful external conditions, and inall types of weather.

 

Knowledge of city streets and established routes/schedulesand ability to consistently maintain schedules as required.

 

Knowledge of andability to properly operate two-way radio system.

 

Working knowledge of standard English grammar, spellingand punctuation, and ability to prepare detailed activity reports as required.

 

Ability to meet all employer hiring and retention requirements,including passage of a medical exam, drug screen, and written test.

 

Ability toeffectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, other Citydepartments and the public, including being sensitive to professional ethics,gender, cultural diversities, and disabilities.

 

Ability to complywith all employer and department policies and work rules, including, but notlimited to, attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct.

 

Ability to providepublic access to or maintain confidentiality of department information andrecords according to state requirements.

 

Ability to competently serve the public with diplomacy andrespect, including occasional encounters with difficult persons.

 

Ability tounderstand, memorize, retain, and carry out verbal or written instructions.

 

Ability to applyknowledge of people and locations, make simple arithmeticadditions/subtractions, and read/interpret detailed manuals, maps, anddirections.

 

Ability to work alonewith minimum supervision and with others in a team environment, often undertime pressure.

 

Ability to workextended, evening, and/or weekend hours.

 

Possession of a valid Indiana drivers license and Class B CommercialDriver's License (CDL) with Passenger endorsement and demonstrated safe drivingrecord.

 

II. RESPONSIBILITY:

 

Incumbent performs duties according to a standard schedulewith priorities primarily determined by supervisor.  Assignments are guided by specific detailedinstructions, with incumbent referring to supervisor for unusual orunprecedented situations.  Errors in workare primarily detected or prevented through complete prior instructions fromsupervisor.

 

Incumbent reports directly to Operations Manager.

 

 

 

 

III. PHYSICALEFFORT:

 

Incumbent's duties involve sitting for long periods, sitting/walkingat will, reaching, bending, light to moderate lifting, close/far vision,color/depth perception, hearing sounds/communication and handling/grasping/fingeringobjects.

 

IV. WORKINGCONDITIONS:

 

Incumbent performs duties in a bus and outdoors and is regularlyexposed to inclement weather, traffic, excessive noise, dust, and exhaust fumesnormally associated with city driving.  Incumbentregularly works extended, evening, and/or weekend hours.
