RPD Issues COVID-19 Update

March 18, 2020

Dear Citizens of Richmond and Wayne County,

As things change daily for our community during this challenging health crisis, the Richmond Police Department is committed to providing the service that the public expects and deserves.  It is important to us as an agency that the community knows that they can depend on us for essential services during an uncertain time.

To be able to provide those essential services, we have taken many steps to keep our Officers and support staff healthy so that they are able to respond to calls and deal with emergency situations as they arise.  With the implementation of precautionary measures, basic health screenings, travel advisories, and limited access to City Hall, we are asking for the public’s assistance and patience to help us keep our first responders healthy.

We ask that the public only come in person to the City Building for essential business.  If there is not an immediate need for things such as background checks, personal protection permits, and report copies, we ask that you do not come to the City Building at this time.  If you have questions, please feel free to contact the Richmond Police Department Information Desk at 765-983-7247.

Please be mindful of Federal,State, and local directives from our leaders concerning matters of travel, closings, and restrictions.  We urge everyone to practice hand washing, sanitizing, and social distancing, to protect themselves from COVID-19.  Working together as a community is how we will overcome this challenge in Richmond and Wayne County.

Respectfully,
Major Jon Bales
Deputy Chief of Police
