PARKS DEPARTMENT HOSTS MIDDLEFORK EMBANKMENT CLEARING

RICHMOND, IN. – The Richmond Parks and Recreation Department is inviting the community to participate in their Middlefork Embankment Clearing Days on August 27th and 28th. These clearing days are a part of their Cleanup Series, which brings together volunteers from across the community to work together to pick up litter that has accumulated over the season, remove invasive plant species, and provides a way for citizens to feel the pride of giving back to their community.

Volunteers are to meet at the Middlefork Service Center. The clearings will take place from 9am to 1pm both days. Individuals, families, and groups are all welcome. Volunteers will be working along the embankment to provide a better fishing experience for Richmond community members. Middlefork Reservoir — a lovely, secluded fishing and wildlife area — is one of Richmond's best kept secrets, and it just needs a little love in order to shine.

Park Superintendent Denise Retz encourages all community members to take advantage of this opportunity, saying “Volunteering in the Parks 2020 Cleanup Series is a wonderful way to give back to the Richmond community, social distance, and keep our parks healthy and safe.”

Social distancing and other prevention measures will be in place to stop the spread of COVID-19. Closed-toe shoes will be required and masks or face coverings are highly recommended, especially during check-in. Snacks, water, gloves, bags, and tools will be provided.
