Historic Preservation Commission to Host a Series of Workshops
The City of Richmond's Historic Preservation Commission will host a series of six free historic preservation workshops aimed at empowering property owners within the city's historic districts. These workshops underscore the city's commitment to preserving its rich history and encouraging property owners to take an active role in maintaining the integrity of their historical properties.
This program has been made possible through a Historic Preservation Education Grant from Indiana Landmarks, Indiana Humanities, and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Their support reinforces the significance of local participation in maintaining the architectural treasures that help make Richmond special. The importance of these workshops is highlighted by the recent inclusion of the Starr Historic District as one of Indiana's 10 Most Endangered.
The workshops will be held at Richmond Columbian Properties, William G. Scott House in the Starr District. This setting provides a fitting backdrop for learning about and appreciating the importance of preserving our city's historic buildings. Workshops will be both practical and accessible, providing property owners with the knowledge and skills needed to maintain and restore their historic properties. Topics range from understanding architectural styles and preservation techniques to navigating regulatory requirements for historic properties.
As an added incentive, attendees who participate in three or more workshops will be entered to win a $100 gift card to Menards, providing further support for their home projects.
"The City of Richmond values its rich history and is committed to ensuring that our architectural heritage is preserved and maintained," stated Tina Conti, Chair of Richmond’s Historic Preservation Commission. "Through these workshops, we aim to equip property owners with the knowledge and skills necessary to care for their historic properties."
Workshops will be held on the fourth Saturday of each month, beginning with Preservation 101 on February 17th from 9am to 12pm. Anyone interested in attending any of the six workshops can fill out the registration form linked below.
